Terms of Use

Effective October 25, 2026. Last updated October 25, 2026.

In short

hockeytape.ca is a free information site about hockey tape. Use it lawfully, don't copy our content without permission, and treat our taping advice as general information, not professional or safety advice. If you send us a story, you let us edit and publish it. The site is provided as is.

1. Agreement to These Terms

By using hockeytape.ca, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

Your use of the site is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

2. Who Runs This Site

hockeytape.ca is owned and operated by Scott Plumptree, an individual in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There is no company behind it. “We”, “our” and “us” mean hockeytape.ca and Scott Plumptree.

The site is a free educational guide to hockey tape. It covers tape types, taping tutorials by position, taping styles, lore, documented player tape stories and an interactive 3D Tape Lab. There is nothing to buy, and there are no accounts, logins or payments.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:

  • Break any law or regulation
  • Try to gain unauthorized access to the site, its forms or its systems
  • Interfere with how the site works or with its security
  • Use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to disrupt or overload the site, or to send automated form submissions
  • Submit spam, false information, or content that is unlawful, abusive or infringes someone else’s rights

Search engines and AI assistants may crawl, index and use the site’s public text in line with our robots.txt file. Nothing in this section restricts that. Rights in our images and 3D renders remain governed by section 6.

You are responsible for the accuracy of anything you submit.

4. General Information, Not Professional or Safety Advice

Everything on this site is general information about hockey tape. It is not professional, medical, coaching or safety advice.

  • Taping is personal. What works for one player may not work for you.
  • League and association rules change. Check your league’s current rules on tape, equipment and safety before you rely on anything here.
  • Talk to a qualified coach, trainer or equipment professional if you have questions about your safety or equipment.

We do not promise any result from following our tutorials, including better grip, puck control or performance.

5. Your Story Submissions

When you send a story through the “Share your story” form, you must tick a consent box that says: “hockeytape.ca can edit and publish my story. My email stays private.”

By ticking it, you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, ongoing licence to edit, publish, display and adapt your story on hockeytape.ca. We may shorten it, correct it, or choose not to publish it. You keep ownership of your story.

  • We show your name with your story only if you tick the box asking us to.
  • We never publish your email address.
  • You confirm the story is yours to share and does not infringe anyone’s rights.
  • You can ask us to remove a published story at any time by writing to scott@plumptree.com.

People under 13 should not submit a form without a parent or guardian.

6. Intellectual Property

The text, the 3D engine, and every render and image on hockeytape.ca are original to the site and owned by Scott Plumptree. They are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce or distribute them without our written permission.

Team, league, player and equipment brand names (for example NHL, Bauer, CCM and Warrior) are used only to describe and identify. Their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those organizations or people. Player stories are summarized and paraphrased from published sources, which are linked.

7. Sponsored Content

The site may carry sponsored placements, such as a brand in the 3D scene, a sponsored tutorial or a Tape Lab preset. Sponsored content is always labelled. Partners never write the site’s advice, and placements involve no tracking of visitors.

8. No Warranties

The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”.

We make no warranties, express or implied, including:

  • Accuracy or completeness
  • Reliability or availability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose

9. Accuracy and Availability

We do not promise that:

  • The content is complete, accurate or current
  • The site will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors
  • The 3D Tape Lab will run on every device or browser

We may change or discontinue the site, or any part of it, at any time without notice.

The site links to other websites, including the published sources behind player stories.

We are not responsible for:

  • Content on other sites
  • Their privacy practices
  • Their products or services

You use other sites at your own risk.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental or consequential damages
  • Loss of data or opportunities
  • Errors or omissions in content
  • Injury, equipment damage or penalties from following taping advice
  • Interruptions or failures of the site

You use the site at your own risk.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Scott Plumptree from any claims, damages, liabilities and expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the site
  • Your breach of these Terms
  • Content you submit

13. Privacy

How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.

14. Ending Access

We may restrict, suspend or end your access to the site at any time, without notice, if you break these Terms or misuse the site.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

16. Disputes

We will first try to resolve any dispute through good-faith discussion. If that fails, the dispute will go to a court of competent jurisdiction in British Columbia, or where you live if the law requires it.

17. Your Rights Where You Live

Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the consumer protection laws that apply to you. Visitors in the United States keep the rights their state law gives them.

18. Severability

If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest stays in full effect.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us about your use of the site.

20. Assignment

We may assign or transfer these Terms, for example if the site changes hands. You may not assign your rights without our written consent.

21. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted. If you keep using the site, you accept the updated Terms.
