Story Submission Policy
Effective October 25, 2026. Last updated October 25, 2026.
In short
We publish real tape stories from real players, sent with consent. We may edit for length and clarity, but we never invent a story or change what it means. We never offer anything in exchange for a story, your email is never published, and we remove any story on request.
hockeytape.ca is owned and operated by Scott Plumptree, an individual in Vancouver, British Columbia. This policy explains how we handle the tape stories people send us.
1. Purpose and Scope
This policy covers every story sent through the “Share your story” form and how we review, edit, publish and remove those stories.
It is separate from the documented player stories on the site. Those are summarized and paraphrased from published sources, and we link each source.
2. What You Send Us
The form asks for:
- your name (optional)
- your email (optional, used only to follow up, never published)
- your level, position, and team or league
- how you tape your blade and knob
- your story
- a checkbox to show your name with the story
- a required consent checkbox: “hockeytape.ca can edit and publish my story. My email stays private.”
Submissions are stored in Airtable (Formagrid Inc., US) so Scott can review them. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle personal information.
People under 13 should not use the form without a parent or guardian.
3. Standards We Follow
We follow the principles behind the US Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides and the deceptive marketing provisions of Canada’s Competition Act. Stories must be genuine, and nothing we publish should mislead readers.
4. Guiding Principles
4.1 Authenticity
Every published story must be a real experience from the person who sent it. We never fabricate a story, invent a player or write a story ourselves and present it as a submission.
4.2 No Incentives
We never offer money, gear, discounts, prizes or anything else in exchange for sending, changing or removing a story.
4.3 Open to Every Experience
Good, bad or strange, all tape stories are welcome. We do not ask for stories that praise a particular tape or brand, and we do not reject a story because it is critical of one.
4.4 No Pressure
Sending a story is always optional. We never pressure anyone to send one, and we never ask you to mention a specific brand, product or wording.
5. What We Do Not Allow
- stories from people paid by, or working for, a tape or equipment brand, unless that relationship is stated, in which case we disclose it or decline the story
- stories written by bots, scripts or AI tools
- bulk or automated submissions
- stories that pretend to be from someone else
The form carries a hidden spam trap and a timestamp to block bots.
6. Editing
By ticking the consent box, you let us edit your story before publishing it. We edit only to:
- shorten it to fit the page
- fix spelling, grammar and clarity
- use Canadian spelling
- remove personal details, such as contact information or other people’s names
We never change what your story means, add events that did not happen, or put words in your mouth. If an edit would change the meaning, we email you first if you gave us your address, or we leave the story out.
7. Moderation and Publication
7.1 What We Publish
We read every story ourselves. No automated system decides what is published. We do not publish every story, and sending one does not mean it will appear.
We publish your name only if you ticked the box to show it. Otherwise the story appears without a name. Your email is never published.
7.2 Reasons We May Decline a Story
- it looks fake, copied or automated
- it is offensive, hateful, harassing or unlawful
- it contains private information about someone else
- it is mainly an advertisement
- it is off topic, or repeats a story we already have
- it appears to be from someone under 13 without a parent or guardian
7.3 Transparency
We do not hold back a story because of the tape, brand or opinion in it. We decline stories only for the reasons above.
8. Your Rights
You may:
- send an honest story in your own words
- choose not to send one
- choose whether your name appears
- ask how your story will be used
- ask us to correct or remove your story at any time
We keep submissions only as long as we need them to review, publish or reply, and we delete them on request.
9. Removal on Request
To remove or correct a published story, email scott@plumptree.com with the page URL or enough detail to find it. We remove it as soon as we can.
10. Reporting a Concern
If you think a story on the site breaks this policy, email scott@plumptree.com. We review every report.
11. Policy Updates
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the law or in how the site works. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
