Image and Media Licensing Policy
Effective October 25, 2026. Last updated October 25, 2026.
In short
Every render and image on hockeytape.ca is original and belongs to Scott Plumptree. You may not copy, reuse or alter them, or use them to train AI, without written permission. Press, bloggers and educators can ask by email, and we often say yes. We do not use third-party stock images unless a page says so.
hockeytape.ca is owned and operated by Scott Plumptree, an individual in Vancouver, British Columbia. This policy explains who owns the visual media on the site and how you may and may not use it.
1. Ownership of Original Media
Unless a page says otherwise, all text, renders, images, graphics, diagrams, the 3D engine and the Tape Lab scenes on hockeytape.ca are original to the site and belong to Scott Plumptree. They are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws in Canada, the United States and internationally.
Parts of the site, including some code, text and 3D renders, were made with the help of AI tools and reviewed by a person.
2. Copyright Protection
Original content on the site, including:
- 3D renders and Tape Lab scenes
- step-by-step tutorial images and diagrams
- graphics and illustrations
- website design elements
- the hockeytape.ca name and logo
may not be copied, reproduced, modified, distributed, displayed, published, republished, scraped, downloaded for reuse or otherwise used without prior written permission.
Linking to a page on the site is always fine.
3. Third-Party Media
We do not use third-party stock images. If a page ever includes media we did not make, that page will say so and name its source. That media belongs to its owner, and you must get a licence from them, not from us.
4. Permitted Uses
We may give written permission to use our renders and images for:
- news coverage and press features
- blog posts, reviews and articles about hockey or hockey tape
- coaching, school and other educational material
- other uses we agree to in writing
To ask, follow Section 6. We decide each request on its own.
5. Prohibited Uses
Without written permission, you may not:
- republish our images on other websites or social media accounts
- use them in paid advertising
- use them in competitor comparisons or in a misleading context
- alter or manipulate them, or create derivative works from them
- remove credits, watermarks or embedded metadata
- include them in AI training datasets or machine learning systems
- sell, resell, redistribute or license them as stock
- scrape or harvest them with automated tools
Notice and Takedown
If we find our media used without permission, we may ask the person using it to remove it. We may also:
- send takedown notices to web hosts, search engines, social media platforms and marketplaces under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act and similar laws elsewhere
- send notices through internet service providers under the notice-and-notice regime of Canada’s Copyright Act
- report the use to platforms under their own intellectual property policies
Legal Remedies
We may also use any remedy the law allows, including:
- statutory damages under section 38.1 of Canada’s Copyright Act
- statutory damages under 17 U.S.C. § 504 in the United States, including increased damages for wilful infringement
- remedies for removing or altering copyright management information, including embedded image metadata, under sections 41.22 and 41.23 of Canada’s Copyright Act and 17 U.S.C. §§ 1202–1203
- injunctions, the delivery up or destruction of infringing copies, and an accounting of profits
Where unauthorized use is not resolved after written notice, we may seek our reasonable costs of enforcement, to the extent the law allows.
6. Asking Permission
To ask to use a render or image, email scott@plumptree.com and include:
- the image or the page URL where it appears
- how you want to use it
- where it will be published
- whether the use is commercial or editorial
- how long you plan to use it
7. Trademark Notice
The hockeytape.ca name and logo are covered by our Trademark and Brand Usage Policy. Permission to use an image does not include permission to use our name or logo as a brand.
8. Credit
If we give permission, credit hockeytape.ca and link to the page where the image appears, unless we agree on something else in writing.
9. Reporting Unauthorized Use
If you see our media used without permission, email scott@plumptree.com. Include the URLs and screenshots if you can.
